***Texas Medicaid Waivers and Wait Lists

A Medicaid waiver allows the state to assist individuals and provide some long-term services to those with disabilities or elderly citizens eligible for Medicaid. Medicaid Waivers override certain rules on how Medicaid funds can be used, enabling eligible individuals to receive necessary services in their own homes or community settings, versus nursing facilities or institutions. It is possible to qualify for both Medicaid benefits and Medicaid waiver programs.

Texas offers several waiver programs with a broad range of services for people with disabilities and the elderly, each with different rules and funding amounts.

It can take over 10 years for your child to reach the top of the Interest List(s). Therefore, it’s crucial to call the numbers below and get placed on the lists as soon as possible.

Note: Consider adding your child to as many waiver interest lists as possible when your child is first diagnosed with a disability or special health care needs. You can add your child to the lists even if they aren’t diagnosed but have reason to believe that your child will have a long-term disability or special health care needs. If your child no longer needs the service when they come to the top the interest list, you can tell them you do not want the waiver.  Click HERE for additional information on Waiver and Wait Lists.
